In mid-September, high-performance apparel company SeeHerWork will launch its inaugural line of high-performance work wear, which will include gloves, safety vests, and protective wear tailored specifically to fit and protect working women on jobsites and in other hazardous areas.
SeeHerWork was created in response to a lack of well-designed, good-fitting Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment for women. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a growing number of women are employed in construction, energy, utilities, logging and emergency response. Over 350 women died from workplace-related accidents in 2016, and 40% of these fatalities are related to improperly-fitting work clothing or equipment.
Through personal experience and a series of focus groups, founder Jane Henry found that most of the work wear available to women was simply shrunken-down from mens’ sizes, which did not fit them properly and posed performance and safety hazards. “We are sticking to the standard and making it highly effective from a fit and performance perspective,” Henry says. “Most of the women say that they are tired of ‘pink it and shrink it’! They want to perform.”
