MOVE-UP BUILDERS LOOKING TO ADD profits to their projects may find that the new IntelliControl Integrated Control Solutions (ICS) system from Niles Audio is the differentiator they've been waiting for.

Mike Detmer, vice president of sales and marketing at Niles, says that for a home buyer cost of $6,500 to $10,000, builders can offer a system that handles up to six audio sources in six zones. Most of the packages that home builders offer also come with speakers installed. Keypads, touchpanels, and remotes range from $200 to $800.

“We can handle any of the sources, including AM-FM [radio], XM [or] Sirius [satellite radio], an iPod, any legacy CD or DVD player, and a cable box,” says Detmer, adding that the higher-end touchscreens and display panels from Niles have an interface that lets home buyers access music the way they would on an iPod. “What we're trying to do is enable the contemporary audio lifestyle,” he notes, by letting people more easily personalize their audio.

“The receiver has a clock function with an alarm and sleep timer,” Detmer says. “I can go to sleep to a wave-crashing sound and have the kids wake up in the morning to the XM Disney channel.”

Detmer agrees that the ICS system is not for first-time home buyers, but the price point makes it a good step-up product. Niles also plans to ship systems later this year that will let home buyers manage both audio and video.
