IKO has expanded its existing line of Cambridge Cool Colors singles with six new color options, including four dark tones to meet strong demand in California. Each new color has a Solar Reflective Index of 20+, matching Los Angeles’s new standard and exceeding California’s Title 24 minimum code standards for solar reflectance by 25%.
The Cambridge Cool Colors expansion offers choices in three distinct color blends: COOL PLUS, COOL and Natural Cool. COOL PLUS colors include the new darker options – Weatherwood, Harvard Slate, Dual Brown and Graphite black – while the COOL color options include medium tones Canyon Oak and Sand Dune. The original Natural COOL collection has an SRI of 16+, plus an algae-resistant option, Dual Grey, and the highly-reflective Arctic White, with an SRI of 23+.
“As the city and county of Los Angeles have increased their Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) requirements from the state’s required 16 to 20, we saw an opportunity to be proactive for our customers and develop a product that meets the new requirement,” says Mark Okland, product development manager for IKO North America.
The manufacturer achieves its reflective threshold with proprietary color granules. “To achieve an SRI rating of 20+, IKO embedded granules with infrared-reflective pigments,” Okland says. “This transmits less of the sun’s solar energy into the attic. Six of our nine color options, including the highly anticipated medium and darker-toned color options, will meet or exceed the new SRI 20 standard.”
