Drees Homes has tapped industry veteran Randy Mickle to oversee the builder’s Southeast region. Mickle will replace Dave Hausfeld, who is retiring after nearly 25 years with Drees Homes.
Mickle’s appointment as Southeast regional president comes at an important time for the No. 39 company on the 2025 Builder 100 list. As Drees Homes approaches its 100th business anniversary in 2028, it is targeting 300 annual closings in each of its divisions. Drees Homes’ Southeast region includes four markets: Jacksonville, Nashville, Raleigh, and Washington, D.C.

“What truly stood out to me is the incredible tenure of [Drees] employees, many of whom have been with the company for decades,” Mickle says. “Their loyalty speaks volumes about the culture here. Their legacy of quality craftsmanship, innovative design, home personalization, and a commitment to customer satisfaction deeply aligns with my own values.”
Based in Nashville, Mickle previously served as division president at Lennar, where he helped drive more than 300% sales growth over five years.
“Randy comes to Drees with outstanding references, a wealth of sales expertise, and a demonstrated ability to scale divisions successfully—all essential qualities as we work toward our ambitious goal of achieving at least 300 closings in each of our divisions,” says Drees Homes president Tim Terrell.
In the role of Southeast regional president, Mickle will help guide personnel, manage the division’s financial health, and ensure alignment with corporate growth objectives.
“The position also ensures a robust lot supply to drive sustainable growth and profitability, while fostering our unique culture throughout the region,” says Terrell. “We plan on growing the region organically through expansion within our current Southeast markets.”
According to Terrell, strong job and income growth in the region’s four markets provides a solid foundation for long-term growth. Drees is also investing in new talent to strengthen its self-development capabilities and unlock greater opportunities to secure land and expand its footprint.
“Drees is uniquely positioned, given our proprietary skills and processes, to capture sales from the discerning buyer segment,” says Terrell. “This buyer, while primarily in the first and second move-up markets, also exists in the first-time and move-down markets.”
Moving forward, Mickle will also be responsible for keeping the Drees product “innovative and relevant” and for delivering on key objective targets of the company’s Centennial Strategic plan. In addition to the annual closing targets, the plan emphasizes delivering a great customer experience, being uniquely skilled in lot acquisition, enabling a seamless buying experience with technology, and growing the Drees build-on-your-lot business Elevate.
