Vice president of Joseph Homes, Miriam Joseph, ASID, wants her clients to get good design that's good for them. To that end, she's been using American Clay plaster for six years because “it offers a lot of versatility and the fact that it's a green product makes it even better.” Joseph also feels good about using a product that's made locally. Besides being all natural and non-toxic, American Clay can be applied to wall materials from drywall to concrete block, can be re-worked even after drying, and is easy to clean. Joseph enjoys mixing her own colors or trying different textures with additives like straw or mica. Finishes range from rustic processes like skip or hand trowel to smooth and glossy. The manufacturer says the clay can even be blown on with a sprayer for faster application. Joseph says the results give rooms an interesting and lively atmosphere regardless of architectural style. “The texture on the walls adds a lot of life and you can do an Old World deep texture to a highly polished more modern look,” she adds.
