With a focus on sustainability, Palari Group and Sinarmas Land Limited (SML and subsidiary SML Group) have announced their strategic partnership to expand Palari’s growth of modular, environmentally conscious homes. SML Group, headquartered in Singapore, is a world-class property developer with presence across seven countries, now including the U.S.
"We are very excited to announce our strategic partnership with SML Group; their rich experience and successful track record in developing smart, sustainable, and affordable cities perfectly align with Palari's vision of becoming America's leading developer of sustainable technology-focused communities," says Basil Starr, CEO of Palari.
To address the housing shortage and inflated material costs, three master-planned communities, totaling 200 homesites, are in development in California. According to the partners, this includes the world’s first 3D-printed net-zero energy community of Palari Villas in Rancho Mirage. The innovative community will include 30 sustainable homes on 10 gated acres. Featuring mid-century modern architecture, Rancho Mirage Palari Villas will be built off site using automation, robotics, and 3D printing.

The modular construction methodology lowers construction waste by 95%, reducing 5 pounds of waste per square foot by printing only what is required. Palari also estimates that each home built eliminates the equivalent carbon dioxide emissions of 5,026 miles driven and 225 gallons of gasoline. High-density insulation, solar panels, backup batteries, and other energy-efficient materials lower the homes’ energy usage.
Palari Villas’ exteriors are built with a novel stone-like material combined with steel. A single panel of the composite material replaces eight layers of traditional materials. In addition, the home’s wellness system, designed by Delos, communicates with a cutting-edge computer system that enhances indoor air quality, creates circadian lighting, and filters drinking water.

Rancho Mirage Palari Villas will be available for move-in by mid-2023. In Desert Hot Springs, 77 Palari modern homes are in development on 23 gated acres. The homes will be completed by early 2023. By early 2024, the third development, La Quinta Villas, a master-planned community of 94 homes adjacent to a golf course, will be ready for residents.
"As a sustainable leader, SML has always focused on leveraging innovative and sustainable solutions within its development and continues to seek out like-minded partners to further this endeavor,” says Michael Widjaja, group CEO of Indonesia's Sinar Mas Land. “This partnership marks a big step toward a more sustainable future, harnessing modern construction methods to reduce our carbon footprint.”
