United Homes Group has announced founder, CEO, and chairman Michael Nieri is transitioning to the role of executive chairman Oct. 1.
As executive chairman, Nieri will shift his leadership time and energies to focus primarily on the company’s strategic future.
“I am incredibly proud of what this company has accomplished. We have assembled an excellent management team that is focused on growing the business and executing on our objectives as a public company,” says Nieri. “Our tremendous growth and transformation, including becoming a publicly traded company and listing on Nasdaq in 2023, necessitates these changes and this division of responsibilities.”
During his tenure, Nieri has overseen the growth and transformation of the company from its Great Southern Homes founding in 2004 through its transition to becoming a public company in 2023.
Nieri also helmed the company through its completion of three home builder acquisitions since going public and the company’s recent designation as 2024’s Builder of the Year by BUILDER Magazine.
Concurrently with Nieri’s transition, Jamie Pirrello, currently a member of the board of directors and a consultant to the company, was named interim CEO.
“I’m excited about this transition to the next phase of leadership of the company and partnering with Jamie to further the company’s growth trajectory,” continues Nieri. “As executive chairman, I will stay engaged with the company’s strategic initiatives but also explore other things that are important to me, including philanthropic activities and spending more time with my family and my grandchildren.”
United Homes’ board of directors intends to undertake a search to identify the company’s next permanent CEO and will consider both internal and external candidates.
“On behalf of the board, I want to sincerely thank Michael for his leadership and dedication to the company that he built,” says Robert Dozier, vice chairman of the company’s board of directors. “Michael has ably steered this company through headwinds in the home building industry and capitalized on tailwinds, overseeing the company’s rapid growth into a premier home builder in the Carolinas.”
Dozier adds, “We are excited to have Jamie step into the role of interim CEO. Jamie has a proven track record of operational excellence over his decades in the home building industry, and we have confidence in his leadership of the company through this transition.”
Pirrello’s career spans 30 years, with most of his time spent with large public and private builders, including PulteGroup, NVR, First Homebuilders of Florida, and BCB Homes. He served as a regional president for Century Communities from 2018 through February 2023, overseeing its Southeast, Texas, and Florida regions. After leaving Century Communities, Pirrello has been the managing partner of Berkeley-Columbia Consulting Group. He also previously served as chief financial officer of both Interior Logic Group and UCP.
