Philips Hue is expanding its popular smart light bulb offering to include a fresh line for the outdoors. Slated for a summer release, the new range includes Lily, a spotlight that nestles into the garden and highlights accent features, and Calla, a soft, round path light that can be affixed to a bollard. The collection also offers a set of three wall-mounted luminaires.

Like the company's indoor line, the lights connect to the Philips Hue bridge, which allows homeowners to control the bulbs through a smartphone app or their choice of hub. Users simply connect the outdoor lighting products to the bridge, and control the luminaires with the touch of a button, whether at home or away. The outdoor lights can also be triggered by the "Home & Away" function in the Hue app. When location awareness on the homeowner's mobile phone is switched on, both the indoor and outdoor lights can automatically turn on and welcome its users home.

“Our customers are always looking for new ways to extend their smart lighting system and the new Philips Hue outdoor range takes it a huge step further,” says Sridhar Kumaraswamy, business leader of home systems and luminaires at Philips Lighting.
“While Philips Hue bulbs and luminaires are available for every area inside your home, we wanted to traverse the threshold and offer connected luminaires designed for outside areas. The Philips Hue outdoor range enables you to make the most of your outside areas, be it creating the ideal ambiance to host a BBQ at the weekend or beautifying your garden,” he says.
The products have a color temperature range of 2200-6500 Kelvin and feature 16 million colors, according to the manufacturer. They will be available in the United States in July.
