A new product from smart home manufacturer Nexia will allow homeowners to manage water consumption as easily as they control their television.

The company has partnered with Rachio, maker of the Iro Smart Sprinkler Controller, to combine Iro’s smart-sensing irrigation technology with the convenience of its home automation system and app. The new technology brings outdoor irrigation management and conservation capability to homeowners who subscribe to the Nexia system, which is offered by many production builders

Using modern irrigation techniques and real-time intelligence on the weather, zone type, regional characteristics and seasonality, Iro’s sensors and software automatically calculate the optimal watering schedule with just the right amount of water necessary to maintain a healthy landscape, reducing outdoor water usage by 30 percent on average.

Now fully integrated with Nexia, the Iro Smart Sprinkler Controller can connect seamlessly with hundreds of compatible products for endless combinations of smart home functionality – all of which can be managed through a single Nexia app. Nexia users can also turn their irrigation on and off remotely from their smartphone and incorporate Iro into their Nexia automations or modes for added control and customization over their smart home environment.

“We already provide users more ways than ever to monitor and control their home from anywhere in the world – now we’re extending that reliability and flexibility to the yard,” says George Land, director of Nexia.

Rachio Iro’s cloud-based software can be managed from any WiFi-enabled iOS or Android device. The eight-zone Iro retails for $249 while the 16-zone Iro retails for $299. Both systems are WaterSense certified by the EPA and eligible for rebates nationwide.
