Schlage has expanded its Amazon Alexa voice-control capabilities for its Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt and Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt. In addition to voice-enabled locking or status updates via Alexa-connected devices, users may now unlock their Schlage Sense or Smart Connect via voice command.

Users who have connected their Schlage Sense or Connect to Alexa must manually enable or disable the new voice unlock functionality, which is disabled by default, through the Alexa app. When the user enables the feature, they will create a unique voice access code, which must be spoken for Alexa to unlock the door. The feature is immediately disabled after three incorrect attempts.

“Schlage has been at the forefront of the Internet of Things industry since launching the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt,” says Rob Martens, futurist at Allegion, the maker of Schlage locks. “This new integration and functionality is a testament to our ongoing commitment to raise the bar for innovation, convenience and security.”

In order to use the Schalge Sense with Amazon Alexa, home owners must connect the device to the \Schlage Sense app on Android or iOS with the Schalge Sense Wi-Fi Adapter. Schlage Connect users must connect their device to a Samsung SmartThings or Wink hub.

Schlage Sense and Schlage Connect users may create or delete up to 30 unique access codes for their smart locks, which may also be entered on the lock itself. They can also schedule access codes so guests can only enter at certain times, view past code activity, update settings, or check battery life. Smart hub or Schlage Sense app users can also check the status of their lock from anywhere in the world. schlage.com
