Woodside Homes—No. 31 on the 2021 BUILDER 100—has announced a new partnership with solar energy provider SunPower as the builder’s exclusive solar and storage provider in Northern California. Woodside will offer SunPower solar panel systems and SunVault energy storage systems to owners and buyers in all of its Northern California communities, and is building an all-new community in Placer County, where SunPower’s solar panel and storage systems are included as standard.
The Brady Vineyards community will offer 128 new homes starting in spring 2022, each one equipped with rooftop solar arrays and 13kWh SunVault storage systems. This will allow homeowners to retain power during outages, use stored energy during peak grid hours, or sell excess energy back to the grid.
“Woodside Homes has long been at the forefront of home energy innovation, incorporating solar electric generation into its building plans for cleaner and more affordable power for more than a decade,” says Matt Brost, senior director of new home sales for SunPower. “Now they are giving home buyers even more freedom and control with the ability to power their homes sustainably and keep their lights on even when the grid goes down.”
Woodside Homes reports that nearly one in three of its customers are asking for energy storage in their new homes. “It’s clear that home buyers are looking for resiliency, affordability, and peace of mind when it comes to powering their homes, and we are making it easier than ever for them to achieve that with the inclusion of our Conscious Comfort solutions, which provide cleaner interior air, energy savings, and advanced insulation systems,” says Brian Cutting, division president at Woodside Homes. “SunPower shares our commitment to providing the best quality and service to homeowners, and we look forward to expanding our work together as our customer needs evolve over time.”
Woodside and SunPower have worked together on solar installations for the past 14 years, providing solar energy systems in over 4,000 of its homes. SunPower works with 17 out of the top 20 builders in California.
