Forestar Group—a subsidiary of D.R. Horton—has begun construction of its newest master-planned community, Weatherwood.
Located 20 minutes from downtown San Antonio, the 425-acre community will offer 1,280 homesites in 40-, 50-, and 60-foot options.
“Our vision for this exceptional development draws inspiration from the history of the land, which was originally settled by the Schuchart family in the mid-1800s,” says Emiliano Guerrero, Forestar San Antonio division land director. “Their legacy, rooted in resilience and perseverance, is woven throughout the development, creating a place families will be excited to call home.”
The name and branding of Weatherwood reflect this history and the family’s legacy will continue to shape the identity of the community.
With home prices starting in the high $300s/low $400s, Weatherwood will appeal to first-time home buyers. The largest lots will offer views of a spacious greenbelt. Additional amenities include a community resort-style pool and private clubhouse, pocket parks, and walking trails.
Medina Valley ISD purchased land from Forestar and is scheduled to break ground on a new elementary school in mid- to late 2026. Additionally, the Medina Fire Department has acquired a small parcel for a future station.
Forestar plans to deliver homesites this summer and to break ground on the amenity center later this year. D.R. Horton is the first confirmed home builder and the company’s model home is expected to open this fall. Additional builders will soon be announced.
“Weatherwood will be a community worthy of the Forestar name,” adds Guerrero. “With an on-site elementary school, large homesites, exceptional amenities, and the backing of Forestar’s history and reputation, Weatherwood will be a prime location to live, work, and raise a family in the rolling hills of San Antonio.”
