AS CRISP AND PICTURESQUE as autumn in New England, the Stonebridge Club is a social hub for residents at The Pinehills, a master planned community. Red and white with rambling appendages, the main building is meant to evoke an old New England barn. Yes, the two-building compound is the nexus for recreational activities—on the grounds are two swimming pools and two tennis courts—but it's also the gathering place for members of some 20 organized clubs. Whether the club's focus is philosophy, books, or fine dining, developer Tony Green made sure the buildings offer a variety of welcoming spaces. There's an oversized great room with a stone hearth, a room with a drop-down movie screen, and more meeting space in the companion post-and-beam cabana. The main building's lower level opens to the great lawn, where a wall of glass folds back, creating a 21-foot opening through which folks can spill out for large events.
