Dixon Sound Studio

Concord, Mass.

A composer’s craving for space in which to write and listen to music was the starting point for this 653-square-foot hideaway dug into a hillside just behind his home. Architect Bill Hubner added a kitchenette, bath, and loft to make the studio more versatile (it doubles as a guest suite and a home theater) and to bring in natural light. “It’s very, very efficient,” Hubner says. “You could spend a few days living there and feel very comfortable.”
