Two weeks ahead of the 41st annual Building Safety Month, the International Code Council has unveiled this year’s weekly themes and virtual activities. These include educational panel sessions, seminars, and more, designed to raise awareness of the role of building codes in community safety, resilience, and sustainability.

“As a leader in building safety, we understand the importance modern and innovative building codes have on society, especially as the emphasis continues to be placed on creating safe and sustainable buildings,” says Greg Wheeler, CBO and Code Council Board of Directors president. “Building Safety Month both celebrates the strides we’ve made in building safety, as well as raises awareness for the critical role of code officials and building codes and standards in ensuring the structural integrity of our buildings.”

In order, this year’s weekly themes are Energy and Innovation, Training the Next Generation, Water Safety, and Disaster Preparedness. This year’s foundation sponsor is the American Gas Association, with 4 Leaf, American Concrete Institute, and State Farm among the other sponsors.

The educational events available for Building Safety Month include:

  • Codes and Standards, How Are They Different and How are Codes Developed?
  • Meet the ICC Membership Councils
  • International Energy Conservation Code: 2021 Changes, Getting Involved in the 2024 Process
