The 2014 New American Home, the official showcase house of the International Builders’ Show, is rising out of the foothills of the exclusive Sky Terrace housing development in Henderson, Nev. The 6,700-square-foot show home will serve as a construction technology laboratory when it opens for tours during the 2014 show Feb. 4-6 in Las Vegas.
From all levels, the contemporary home takes full advantage of the spectacular desert views and the Las Vegas Strip while offering cutting-edge energy efficiency and sustainability. It is designed by architect Jeffrey Berkus to house several generations, and is being constructed by Element Building Co.
TNAH 2014 is expected to achieve Emerald status under the National Green Building Standard (NGBS). To attain Emerald status, TNAH 2014 will rely on the latest innovations, including a state-of-the-art energy-efficiency package. The home’s green features include a solar water heater, photovoltaic panels, and closed-cell spray-foam insulation that also reduces sound transmission through plumbing walls.
The house also will feature a weather-sensitive irrigation system that automatically adjusts usage relative to the immediate climate, tankless water heaters, hydronic air handlers, intelligent fireplaces, and sustainable building materials.
Other anticipated certifications for TNAH include Energy Star, DOE Challenge Home, EPA Indoor airPLUS, DOE Build America, Southern Nevada Green Building Partnership, and the SNWA Water Smart Home program.
TNAH is produced and presented by the NAHB Leading Suppliers Council and BUILDER. Click here for coverage of last year’s home.
