In an offer that ends Labor Day, the luxury home builder will give away high-efficiency, 1.4 kilowatt solar power systems with homes beginning construction in two of its planned communities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.   The homes’ roof-integrated solar collectors not only will save significant utility costs and lower oil and natural gas use, they may qualify the new home buyer for a federal tax credit worth 30% of the solar package’s value, or about $5,000, according to Joyce Mason, vice president of marketing for Pardee Homes.

The solar power systems designed and installed by SunPower Corp., a solar technology manufacturer in California, include a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty and a 25-year power output warranty.

The detached homes in the Ventura county community are priced from the upper $600,000s and range from 2,607 to 3,479 square feet. In one Los Angeles County development, houses start in the mid-$400,000s for 1,830 to 2,432 square feet. In another Los Angeles community, the new homes are 3,211 to 3,960 square feet and start in $500,000s. This is the first year Pardee Homes has offered the sun power deal to make its LivingSmart eco-friendly dwellings even more energy efficient. Mason said the solar-powered houses are 15% more efficient than California’s stringent Title 24 energy efficiency standards.
