An architecturally inspired prefab home with a range of sustainable and energy-saving products is now available from Santa Monica, Calif.-based developer LivingHomes at a price affordable to mainstream buyers.
The 1,232-square-foot LivingHome C6, which is offered in most areas of the United States for about $179,000 (plus site prep work and installation), can be fully constructed in less than two months and installed on-site in one day, the company says. The floor plan was inspired by modern homes built by developer Joe Eichler throughout California in the 1950s and ’60s. Like many Eichler Homes, the C6 is organized around a courtyard that is accessible through a variety of openings and features an open floor plan that is ideal for outdoor/ indoor lifestyles.
Once installed, the Energy Star-certified C6 is eligible for LEED-Platinum level certification, the company says. Other sustainable features include:
--an insulation package that exceeds California Title 24 standards for energy efficiency by 51% --a greywater-ready plumbing system
--a carbon offset from the Carbon Fund to counter the energy used to create the home
--Energy Star-labeled lighting and appliances
--Kohler low-flow toilets, faucets, and fixtures
--a Nest thermostat that monitors homeowner behaviors to create a customized heating and cooling schedule
--Andersen 100 Series low-E windows and sliders
--Trex recycled decking
--Cradle to Cradle-certified tiles and door hardware
--no-VOC paint and formaldehyde-free millwork
The C6 was designed as part of LivingHomes’ new partnership with the Make It Right Foundation to build sustainable and safe homes for working-class families in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward, the neighborhood hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each C6 will help support the efforts of Make It Right.
