During the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative, held September 22–25 in New York City, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) presented the Make It Right Foundation with a LEED plaque to recognize the organization's post-Katrina rebuilding efforts in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward. Rick Fedrizzi, the USGBC's CEO and founding chair, lauded the housing initiative as "the largest and greenest community of single-family homes in the world." Make It Right already has built and certified 13 residences as LEED Platinum in the Lower Ninth Ward and plans to build and certify more than 150 total as LEED Platinum.

The annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative held a special discussion panel on September 24 featuring the Make It Right Foundation's work, "Building a Better Future: A Progress Report on Making It Right in New Orleans." Watch video of the panel here.
