Spending Decisions Reflect Home Values

Consumers’ home values impact their spending decisions far more than changes in their overall financial wealth, according to a recent study. Because homeowners are more cognizant of the value of their homes, a decline in their homes’ market worth drives down their overall consumption, the study’s authors find, while declines in overall financial wealth impact their spending on goods such as houses and cars. BUILDER magazine reports.
