RSI Communities, an affliate of RSI Holdings, has appointed John Bohnen as its new COO. The home building and Army veteran will focus on growing the company’s Texas operations and play a key role in expanding the national footprint of RSI Communities.
Bohnen previously served in leadership positions at Cal Atlantic Homes, Standard Pacific Homes, KB Homes and the United States Army. Most recently, he was the Austin division president for Cal Atlantic Homes and prior to that he was the division president for Standard Pacific Homes. He served as a captain in the United States Army for five years after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
“John Bohnen brings a unique, and hard to find, combination of strength in leadership and experience in home building to the company,” said Todd Palmaer, chief executive officer of RSI Communities. “We welcome his proven success in land acquisition, particularly in Dallas, San Antonio and Austin, where he impressively grew a home building division to be one of the highest performing and most profitable in the country.”
RSI, a California- and Texas-based builder, has multiple growth strategies. Along with acquiring land for its own developments, its is partnering with developers and will build homes for first-time and move-up home buyers, as well as single-family home rental communities. The builder tailors its homes to millennials and empty nesters who are looking to buy their first home or downsize. The company plans to have 25 to 30 communities in Central Texas by the end of 2017 and enter the Houston and Dallas markets within the next year or two.
Recently, RSI Communities announced its commitment to build single-family homes in Texas and California, with future plans to expand into Arizona and Florida. Bohnen is expected to play a critical role in land acquisition initiatives, while establishing systems and processes to ensure steady, sustained growth.
RSI Communities currently has several active projects in Texas and California. Specifically, the company is developing two for-rent communities, Heritage and The Villages at Vickery Grove, in San Antonio, and one for-sale community, Legends Way at Onion Creek, in Austin. RSI Communities plans to open seven to eight more neighborhoods this year in Central Texas.
By the end of 2017, RSI Communities intends to have 30 to 35 communities throughout Texas and Southern California with future plans to expand its footprint into Florida, Arizona and the Carolinas.
