Mark J. O’Brien officially took the reins as president and CEO of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based Pulte Homes, the nation’s largest home builder. O’Brien succeeded chairman and CEO Robert K. Burgess, who retired effective Dec. 31, 2001. When O’Brien moved up, company founder William J. Pulte reassumed the position of chairman of the board, a position he has held in the past. Burgess had also held the title of chairman. “Pulte Homes enters 2002 with tremendous momentum and with opportunities to build on the results of 2001,” O’Brien says. In his 18-year tenure with Pulte, O’Brien has held several positions and has served as COO since 1997.
