To assist students intending to pursue a career in the construction industry, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has created a scholarship fund that will help pay for students in a two-year or four-year design and construction education and training program to attend the annual National Green Building Conference. The NAHB announced the scholarship during the National Green Building Awards gala at the 2009 National Green Building Conference.
Endowed in honor of Texas entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens by founding contributor Tommy Ford Construction, the scholarship fund will be managed by the National Housing Endowment, NAHB’s philanthropic arm. The NAHB’s Green Building Subcommittee will set eligibility requirements and recommend students as potential scholarship recipients.
“The construction management students and the young men and women just getting started in this business need the information, education, and networking that the NAHB National Green Building Conference provides,” said Conference Working Group chair and Mount Pleasant, Mich., builder and certified green professional Joanne Theunissen, during the announcement.
