Plumbing manufacturer Kohler and HVAC producer Johnson Controls are among the honorees for this year’s U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership Awards. The annual awards program recognizes individuals and organizations at the forefront of the green building industry.
USGBC named long-standing member Kohler the recipient of the Ray Anderson Award for Radical Industrialism. The manufacturer is especially recognized for its company-wide Net Zero 2035 program, which aims to eliminate all solid waste sent to landfills, reduce or offset 100 percent of its greenhouse emissions, and reduce water usage.
USGBC also recognized Clay Nesler, vice president of global sustainability and industry initiatives at Johnson Controls, for his leadership of sustainability strategy at the company. Nesler chairs Johnson Controls’ Global Sustainability Council, spearheading sustainability programs and initiatives for the Buildings division.
“USGBC’s Leadership Awards recognize some of the most innovative leaders in the green building movement. These people and companies are upending the status quo and pushing their respective industries to create a more sustainable future for generations to come,” says Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO of USGBC. “Each of these leaders is passionate about their work and about the environmental, health, economic and social benefits of green building.”
Additional USGBC Leadership Awards recipients include Alex Liftman, global environmental executive at Bank of America; Bryan Koop, executive vice president of Boston Properties; YouthBuild founder Dorothy Stoneman; Govindbhai Laljibhai Dholakia, chairman and founder of SRK Exports; The Parkwood Tech Centre; and Richard Kauffman, chairman of energy and finance for New York State.
The USGBC Leadership Awards ceremony will take place at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Boston on Nov. 9.
