When students go away to college, it usually means leaving their family home for the first time to pursue higher education. To help with that big step and get some insight into their secondary homes, Dallas-based Invitation Homes has launched its second annual “There’s No Place Like Home” scholarship contest.

The competition asks high school seniors, college students, and students pursuing higher education or a vocational program to write an 800-word essay about what they take to college to make it feel like home and why it is important to them.

The essays will be judged by an independent, third-party panel and four winners will be selected, with one of the four scholarships awarded to an Invitation Homes resident. Each student will receive a $2,000 prize to use toward their education.

"Pursuing higher education is exciting, but it can also be intimidating, and we at Invitation Homes understand how important feeling happy and safe in your home can be," says Dallas Tanner, president and chief executive officer of Invitation Homes in a press release. "We are once again encouraging students to share their stories about a special memento they take to college to help make that new environment feel like home."

The deadline for entries is October 31, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Winners will be announced by the end of year and featured on the Invitation Homes blog. See more details on contest eligibility on the company’s website.
