Car-free Community Planned for South Carolina

1 MIN READ

I must not be dreaming this, because I’m looking at the Bicycle City, S.C., website right now. According to what I read there, a group of developers is planning a car-free, cycling-centric town near Columbia, S.C. Their goals look mighty ambitious–miles of hiking/biking trails, lakefront recreation, a town center and market, bunches of LEED houses–and the particulars are a bit sketchy at this point, but I wish them all the luck in the world. I have long believed that the easiest way to preserve or improve the quality of a place is simply to keep cars out of it. A new town planned on that principle is an exciting prospect.
