Seattle Incentivizes Developers To Build Schools Downtown

Municipalities often try to get developers to include public schools in their community plans. In Seattle, Mayor Mike McGinn is encouraging developers of the city’s South Lake Union neighborhood to add space for schools inside high-rises in exchange for rezoning that would allow them to add significantly to their buildings’ height. McGinn submitted his plan to the city council in late September, and a ruling is expected in early 2013.
