Schneider Electric has launched Schneider Charge, a smart residential EV charger designed to help home builders or homeowners install Level 2 charging without the expense and disruption often associated with panel or service upgrades.
Available in the U.S. and Canada, the charger uses the company’s built-in SmartAmp dynamic load management technology to monitor household electrical demand in real time and automatically adjust charging output based on available capacity.
“As homeowners buy EVs and add high-power electric technologies, many are realizing their existing electrical systems were not built for that level of demand,” says Shawn Bonacorsi, head of electrification solutions, Schneider Electric, North America operations. “Schneider Charge helps remove that installation hurdle by enabling safe, reliable Level 2 charging within a home’s existing electrical capacity, making EV charging simpler and easier at home where most charging takes place.”
By integrating dynamic load management directly into the charger, installation is simplified for contractors and homeowners alike while potentially avoiding costly electrical upgrades. For builders incorporating EV-ready features into new homes, the charger offers a practical, future-focused solution that aligns with broader home electrification trends.
Schneider Charge doesn’t require separate monitoring hardware or gateway devices. Current transformers included with the system continuously monitor household demand, and load management continues even if Wi-Fi service is interrupted, the company says.
