Florida started a $6 million program, Florida reBuilds, to train construction workers after a state-wide survey revealed nearly 14,000 job vacancies in the industry. The push to recruit and train carpenters, electricians, and roofers comes as a relief to home builders hamstrung by a shortage of trained workers as they strive to keep up with the Sunshine State’s housing boom and recover from costly hurricanes. The program was funded by a $5 million U.S. Department of Labor grant and $1 million in state funds.
