Julia Greer
PROFESSOR, CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Innovation:
Led the creation of nanometamaterials.
Vision:
Julia Greer has led both scientists and students in the task of creating “nanometamaterials” – microscopic materials with hollow, nanoscale lattice architecture. The resulting structures are light, durable, and incredibly strong – and some even retain their shape after pressure is applied.
Economics:
Greer’s current projects include the applications of nanomaterials in lithium ion batteries and the biomedical industry, with the goal of scaling up the production of nanometamaterials for wider industrial use.
