High-tech start-up Built Robotics is developing autonomous construction equipment and has transformed a standard loader into an autonomous work-saver that can excavate land without a human operator. The loader uses augmented GPS, receiving signals from an on-site base station and satellites, and the latest generation of sensors from self-driving cars, which have been retrofitted. Running the loader is software that Built Robotics designed to meet the requirements of construction and earthmoving. The system aims to address the construction industry’s chronic labor shortage, falling productivity, and hazardous working conditions.
