For many, the trickiest part of tiny living is figuring out how to make the most of such limited space. Since the early 1990s, Brooklyn, N.Y.-based designer Roberto Gil has been creating compact and stylish furniture for children and adults under his brands Casa Kids and Casa Collection. This year, after sensing a gap in the market, Gil expanded his Casa Collection line to include two new loft beds dubbed the Urbano and the Arca. An alternative to the fold-down Murphy beds that outfit the studios and small bedrooms of urbanites all over the world, Gil's loft beds are designed to also create storage, seating, and work surfaces beneath an upper-level sleeping space.
Measuring 119" long, 83" wide, and 107" tall, the king-sized Urbano bed is the larger of the two models, featuring walk-in closets, dressers, drawers, and shelving, as well as a desk. A 76-inch clearance underneath the bed allows the entire space to be fully utilizable. For guests, a cabinet in the closet houses a roll-out Trundle bed.
The Arca, which is designed to fit a queen mattress, features a bench, open storage space, and a desk beneath the loft. It measures 83" long (100" including the ladder), 63" wide, and 80" tall with a 60-inch clearance.
Both models are are offered in a natural or walnut birch/plywood finish. The Urbano allows for further customization, and is available with the choice of a single staircase or dual staircases—which also function as drawers.
The Urbano is currently priced at $15,000, and the Arca costs $6,000. Both are available for purchase on the Casa Collection website, here.
