Homes are a place of sanctuary, comfort. And, smart home devices are making that more of a reality, giving home buyers extra conveniences and sensing the performance of things behind the walls. Which can all now be insured with a pilot program launching in Houston.

Comcast has launched a pilot program offering smart home insurance in partnership with Hippo in Houston.

The offering, which targets homeowners using integrated "internet of things" home safety devices, is available in Houston and will be rolled out to other markets next year.

"This new offering can provide customers with meaningful savings on their annual home insurance premiums and enhanced home insurance coverage," Comcast's managing director and general manager of new businesses Jon Kaplowitz said in an announcement.

"By bringing together smart home devices like monitored smoke and water leak detectors with home insurance, we're able to help customers lower their annual home insurance cost and, at the same time, help to provide protection and peace of mind for our customers' most important assets – their home and family."
