Quartz surface manufacturer Cambria introduced the Cambria AR app this week, an augmented reality app for smartphones that allows consumers and contractors to see what Cambria’s countertop and surface options would look like in a space before buying.

The app uses Apple's recently launched ARKit technology to allow homeowners or contractors to virtually map countertops and then overlay them with Cambria surfaces to see what each would look like in the space. First, users scan the room and each counter surface through the app. Then, users outline their countertop, island, or area on the touchscreen to see the space with virtual Cambria designs. Once the surface is mapped, the app automatically displays a new virtual surface, and users can choose from multiple design styles and swap back-and-forth to see how the design will look. Users can then save the photo or video of the design.

Cambria AR is now available in Apple’s App Store.

The company also introduced DragonVision, an interactive design tool that allows users to virtually design a kitchen. Consumers and trade professionals can select from three kitchen styles (traditional, transitional and modern) and over 50 Cambria designs, and customize components such as countertop designs, cabinets, edge profiles and paint colors to create stylized spaces.

DragonVision is available online at Cambria's site.
