The Nordic collection, IKO’s newest line of heavy-duty laminated performance architectural shingles, combines a number of wind- and impact-resistant features to achieve a Class 4 impact rating against hail, as well as resistance to winds of up to 130 miles per hour.
The Nordic’s impact resistance is derived from a coating of polymer-modified asphalt. This serves as a shock absorber to cushion a roof from hail impacts. The manufacturer’s Armourzone system incorporates a 1 1/4-inch nailing surface, with nail positions designed to resist pull-through and shingle blow-off. In addition, the shingles’ Fastlock sealant strips are designed to create a strong bond between shingles, protecting against wind uplift, water penetration and blow-off.
“An extension of our Armourzone performance platform, Nordic shingles not only feature the rare combination of a reinforced nail zone and impact resistance, but they also achieve a high-definition appearance through IKO’s color-blending technology,” says Mark Okland, product development manager for IKO in North America. “Now, customers can have the high-end look they desire with the performance features they need to keep their homes safe.”
The Nordic shingles are available in nine color palettes, which use the same color-blending technology present in IKO’s Dynasty performance shingle line. According to the manufacturer, the collection is made to emulate the look and visual texture of real wood shakes or slate tiles. iko.com
