A landmark study of new-home buyer attitudes concludes nearly six out of 10 of new-home buyers will pay an additional $12,000 - $15,000 for a sliding glass door that blurs the lines between indoors and out with a retractable sliding glass door.

That finding coincides with a manufacturing development that finally opens the big glass door to production homebuilders targeting affordable home buyers.

Powerful Differentiator
“The survey verifies the demand for indoor-outdoor living across all new-home buyer demographics,” says Felsch, the volume program national accounts manager for windows and doors company Western Window Systems. Felsch’s company now offers a moving glass wall system that reinvents what’s possible for homebuilders looking to differentiate themselves at popular price points.

The new big glass door system is called the Series 3700 Vinyl Multi-Slide Door system. Felsch describes it as a breakthrough in moving glass wall value and performance.

Up to 20 in Length
Affordable homebuilders can now specify big glass door systems that respects affordable home price points. Western Window Systems manufacturers not one, but four value-priced glass door systems. Other features include:

  • Three- and four-panel configurations available in widths up to 238.5” in a 95.75” frame height
  • Standard white or almond frame colors with optional black capstock available
  • Contemporary narrow stile profiles
  • Designed to fit most 2x4 and 2x6 openings with no additional framing (three-panel format)
  • Energy code compliant and certified by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) and American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA)

Production Homebuilder Friendly
“We’re able to standardize the manufacturing process in a way that makes sense for production home builders,” explains Felsch. The result not only changes the game for pricing but, importantly, production home delivery schedules.

Felsch cites other reasons that should please production and semi-custom builders. The Series 3700 Vinyl Multi-Slide Door system also includes a “floating” track insert, integral nail fins, and snap-in interlock with no hard sill pan required. The glass is low-E dual-pane, argon-filled glass.
