While some trends that are emerging in both kitchen and bath design center around new materials for countertops or floors, a new element in many kitchen and bath designs is technology. Smart appliances in particular are becoming popular additions to many kitchen spaces, according to WRAL.

From having Alexa read your recipe to you, to voice-controlled ranges, to refrigerators with cameras, the smarts in smart appliances are making everything we do in the kitchen a little easier.

"Another benefit is that new features can actually be added over Wifi," says Deanna Stanley, an interior designer at Toll Brothers.

Smart appliances in the kitchen and technology-controlled features in bathrooms are one way remodelers can ease the lives of homeowners and enhance convenience for potentially hectic lives. Other technological innovations that are beginning to appear in homes are swinging corner-cabinet shelves and more energy-efficient toilets and showers.
