A.O. Smith’s new Product Preservers Powered Anode System is designed to provide an advanced corrosion protection system for tank-style water heaters, replacing the sacrificial anodes that come as industry-standard equipment.
The powered system is designed to easy to install, and includes a plug-in control module, power supply, and wiring harness. The system uses electrical currents to protect the integrity of the tank, and is designed to adjust to meet the needs of the tank’s water type.
Unlike sacrificial anodes, which protect metal structures from corrosion by corroding in preference to the structure they are attached to, the Product Preservers system is designed to provide consistent corrosion protection, without the same frequent need to be checked and replaced. Instead, the system includes a built-in LED fault light and audible alarm to notify users of any issues with the system or tank.
“Consistent cathodic (anode) protection is critical in maintaining the integrity of the porcelain-enameled steel water heater tank,” said Ray Knoeppel, Staff Engineer – Materials for A.O. Smith. “The Product Preservers Powered Anode System was created as a smart system of cathodic protection to extend the life of a water heater over time and eliminate any water quality concerns across every possible water condition.”
The Product Preservers Powered Anode System is compatible with indoor water heaters with dedicated sacrificial anodes that are less than ten years old and hold up to 50 gallons.
