The Dallas Morning News reports the city of Mesquite, which is about 14 miles east of downtown Dallas. is about to get bigger. The city recently approved plans to develop 652 acres of what used to be the Spradley Farm, by adding thousands of new homes. The parcel of land is south of downtown Mesquite but still within the corporate city limits in an area that’s booming with residential growth.

The Spradley family has owned the rural property for almost 50 years.“We’ve had it in the family since 1970 or thereabouts,” said Charles Spradley. “My father always envisioned a value to the property.“There were points along the way we considered selling, and I’m glad we hung on.”

Spradley said the family is working with developer Nehemiah Co. on the project. Nehemiah has major residential projects in Arlington and Denton County.“They have good relationships with builders,” Spradley said. “It’s been fun to see this come about and work with Mesquite.”
