MARTHA STEWART RECENTLY LENT HER expertise in all things domestic to residential home builder KB Home. Working collaboratively, the two home moguls hashed out plans to build a new co-branded community in Cary, N.C.

The community, named KB Home Twin Lakes: Homes Created with Martha Stewart, will feature approximately 650 single-family homes inspired by Stewart’s own homes in Bedford, N.Y., East Hampton, N.Y., and Seal Harbor, Maine. Priced from the low $200s to the mid $400s, the homes will range from 1,500 to 4,100 square feet.

KB’s COO Jeff Mezger says that the collaboration was a “great brand building initiative” for the home builder. With Stewart’s fingerprint on many design aspects of the homes, from floor plans and facades to options and accessories, it’s a strategy that could better leverage KB Home’s own national name. “It’s been a full wrap of the home, working with Martha,” Mezger says.

Cary’s location in the heart of the growing Research Triangle area was a big consideration in determining where to launch the community. “It’s a progressive city with a solid economy, and we have a good management team in place to manage the process.”

And there has been some talk of taking the homes to other regions. “The architecture we’re introducing [in Cary] is very compatible in other markets,” Mezger says, pointing to Atlanta and Houston as possible expansion markets.
