North America Sekisui House has purchased a 4,000-acre portion of the Nexton community in Summerville, South Carolina from WestRock Land and Development. The community has been approved for up to 13,000 residences, including single-family detached, single-family attached, and multifamily, and the purchase includes 400 acres zoned for commercial use.
Newland Communities will serve as NASH’s operating developer for the community. This project marks Newland’s re-entry into the South Carolina market, and is also the first development project in the Charleston metro area for both Newland and NASH.
Nexton is located an active development and employment growth corridor, and features South Carolina’s first community-wide, gigabit broadband service. “We believe Nexton is the best location in the submarket because it’s in the direct path of growth,” said Keith Hurand, President and Chief Operating Officer, East, for Newland, in a statement. “… It’s a place where people can work, shop and play, and serves as a model for responsible, well-managed progress and growth.”
WestRock will continue to develop the community’s commercial and retail land fronting, including the Nexton town center and the PPCP Medical Campus.
“We selected NASH and Newland Communities because we are confident that they will follow through with our plans for Nexton as they were originally conceived,” added Kenneth T. Seeger, President of WestRock Land and Development. “We look forward to working beside them on the properties we are continuing to develop.”
More than 200 homes in the community have either already been sold or are under construction, and prices range between the mid- $200,000s and high $400,000s.
