In a 20,000-acre master-planned community located right outside of Phoenix in Goodyear, Ariz., Newland Communities has broken ground on its newest village in Estrella. The 617-acre development, called Lucero, will be the first new area of the master plan since its 2007 debut, when the village of Montecito opened.
Located near the entrance of the community, Lucero and its amenities have been designed around the area’s panoramic views of the Sierra Estrella Mountains and offer a modern take on desert living. Phase one of the project will include six neighborhoods from five home builders, a model village, café, and bike shop.
Land planning and architectural firm Swaback Partners worked with the developer to offer new architectural styles that will be surrounded by miles of biking and hiking trails. When the new village reaches completion, Estrella will include more than 50 miles of paths and trails for resident’s to use.
“Since Newland Communities took over as the managing developer of Estrella, we have been working to elevate the community’s status as a premier place to live in the West Valley,” says William Olson, senior vice president and division manager for Newland Communities. “Lucero will introduce new home builders to Estrella’s already outstanding cadre of builders and bring fresh amenities into the thriving community.”
The village will feature the community’s new welcome center, Casa Lucero, which will house a locally-owned and operated café and bike shop. The space aims to be a recreation hub that will include plenty of seating and gathering areas for existing and potential residents.
Plus, new Lucero residents will have access to Estrella’s larger outdoor amenity spaces, such as basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and tennis courts, and a Nicklaus-design championship golf course.
Lucero is slated to open in spring 2019, but the land-use plan for Estrella calls for approximately 50,000 homes and about 1,600 acres of commercial space, with build-out anticipated for approximately 2032.
