The first 100 home buyers at Parkland Village, the newest village at northwest Houston master-planned community Bridgeland, will have a tree planted in their honor in the village's new, 25-acre Settlers Park. Developer Howard Hughes Corporation announced that each tree will include a commemorative plaque with the family's name.

When Lakeland Village opened in 2006, the first home buyers were similarly honored in an area named Pioneer Park. “It’s a great way to recognize the wonderful people who will be calling Bridgeland home,” says Heath Melton, the Howard Hughes Corporation’s vice president of master planned communities. “They are the ones who make up the social fabric of our neighborhoods and are our best ambassadors for what living in Bridgeland is all about.”

Parkland Village is based on the concept of living within a park, according to the developers, with a focus on sustainable development and co-existence with the surrounding Katy Prairie. In addition, linear park systems throughout provide pedestrian access to schools and amenities, while natural gathering spaces promote socialization between neighbors. Inspired by the Prairie School of architecture, each Parkland Village home is planned to be no more than a quarter-mile from park space.

Parkland Village will include meadow-like landscaping, wildflowers, and grasses in open areas. 140-acre Josey Lake will serve as a transitional space between Parkland and Lakeland Villages, offering a kayak pavilion, event lawn, and observational birding tower. Two pedestrian tunnels will connect Parkland Village to the lake ecosystem.

Over 15 home builders, including Lennar, Taylor Morrison, M/I Homes, and David Weekley Homes, have been announced for Parkland Village, and Beazer Homes was the first to debut a model home in September. The grand opening is scheduled for early Spring of 2018.
