The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and Florida state prosecutors are investigating more than 140 cases of kitchen appliance theft from new homes under construction, dating back to January 2018.

Authorities believe Nicolas Messer, who is currently in jail on burglary charges, is responsible for a portion of the thefts. According to court documents, the alleged thief rented vans to move stolen appliances. He is linked to thefts in the Belmont and Triple Creek subdivisions, and was arrested in 2016 for similar incidents.

Mark Metheny, Division President, Lennar Central Florida released this statement:

“Lennar Tampa has been made aware of the incident involving Mr. Messer. We intend to fully cooperate with local law enforcement in this ongoing investigation concerning our properties and intend to press charges. All inquiries can be directed to the Sheriff’s Office.”
