KB Home (NYSE: KBH) Thursday announced grand openings of two Southern California communities. The first is River Village, the builder’s newest solar community in San Diego County. One of the only new home opportunities available in the East County city of Santee, River Village offers an easy commute to area employers and access to all San Diego has to offer, via Interstate 8 and Highways 52 and 67.

KB Home plans to construct 82 one- and two-story homes at River Village, with three floor plans available, ranging in size from 2,210 to 2,850 square feet and offering up to six bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and two-car garages. Featuring design options such as spacious great rooms, flex spaces, covered patios, and ample storage, the homes at River Village start in the mid-$600,000s.

Located just minutes away from San Diego State University and Grossmont College, River Village is also within walking distance of the well-regarded K-8 grade Hill Creek School. Homeowners at River Village can take in the shopping, dining, and entertainment options at nearby Santee Trolley Square. Bordered by newly-renovated nature trails running alongside the San Diego River to the south, River Village’s location is also close to the hiking, biking, boating, and fishing.

The new homes at River Village feature large yards and will come equipped with a 2.0 kW solar system as standard. When combined with the many additional energy- and water-conserving features found in all KB homes, including WaterSense® labeled faucets and fixtures, the solar-powered homes at River Village can potentially save buyers hundreds of dollars on utility bills each year as compared to typical new or resale homes.

Up the coast a bit, KB is opening Lotus, its newest community in Orange County. Located in Santa Ana, Lotus’ central location is convenient to Interstate 405 and Highways 22 and 55 for easy commuting throughout Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties.

Home buyers at Lotus can choose between two unique three-story floor plans that feature up to four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and 1,905 total square feet. Featuring spacious great rooms, first floor bedrooms, a private gated park with a dog run, and BBQ area, homes at Lotus start in the high-$500,000s.

Lotus’ proximity to many of Orange County’s premier job centers and major regional points of interest will appeal to a variety of home buyers. Santa Ana College is ten minutes away, while UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton and Chapman University are all within a thirty-minute drive.

Neighboring Little Saigon features a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Family fun days can be spent relaxing in “Surf City” at the Huntington Beach pier, chasing thrills at world renowned theme parks Disneyland® and Knott’s Berry Farm®, or catching a sporting event at Angels Stadium or the Honda Center. The 607-acre Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley is less than two miles away, and school-age children living at Lotus can enroll in the Garden Grove School District.
