The New American Home is a two-year commitment that stretches the limits of even the most organized and efficient builder. In 2007, the team met the additional challenges of historic-district oversight and a tight downtown lot. Working together, the team of Homes by Carmen Dominguez, architect Bloodgood Sharp Buster, Robb & Stucky Interiors, and landscape architect Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin—not to mention a host of consultants, suppliers, and subs—fulfilled the vision and continued the legacy of the industry's longest-running show home series.
THE BUILDER AND THE INTERIOR DESIGNER: The combined skills of Homes by Carmen Dominguez and Robb & Stucky Interiors created a masterful marriage of contemporary living within an authentic, historic context. THE NCHI TEAM: While the “build by committee” nature of The New American Home is foreign to most builders, the team of (L–R) Tucker Bernard, senior director at the NCHI in Washington; Chuck Edwards, TNAH '07 taskforce chairman and president of Charles Homes in Marietta, Ga.; and Bill Nolan, TNAH '07 taskforce vice chairman and vice president of the Affordable Housing Institute in Orlando, shepherded the project from start to finish.
DESIGN TEAM: The brains and talent at the architecture firm of Bloodgood Sharp Buster included (L–R) Stephen Ettel, William Cole, Richard Piacente, Sherry Binkley, Ed Binkley, Lon Roberts, and Rodney Cattoor. The initial design charrette also included (not pictured) Paul Fletcher, Jerry Messman, Mark Mitchell, Jill Sinclair, and Amy Wan.
