BUILDERS ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR low-cost, home-tech upgrades that bring the digital lifestyle to life for their home buyers.
One such product is Snap-Link from Home Automation (HAI), a memory stick with a USB interface that lets a homeowner adjust and check lights, HVAC, and security from any remote computer. The units, which started shipping in the early summer, sell for $99, a price that's easy for most builders to sell as an upgrade.
According to Allison Read, HAI's marketing director, Snap-Link works with HAI's Omni product line, which offers security, lighting, and HVAC; and the company's Lumina products, which feature lighting and HVAC.
Read says Snap-Link is a natural next step to HAI's Web-Link, a product that provides a Web-based connection to an HAI system on a remote PC.
“The difference between Web-Link and Snap-Link is that users needed a dedicated computer that was always on to run Web-Link,” Read explains.
“Snap-Link will work on any PC,” she says. “Basically, if you are at a business center or an Internet Café, you plug Snap-Link in, make a connection through the secure Ethernet port on the HAI controller, and your house comes up on the screen,” she says.
