PulteGroup and Lennar honored the families of military veterans with the gift of homeownership. PulteGroup, through its Built to Honor program, gifted the family of fallen Green Beret Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael Duskin a new home in Pulte’s Rutherford community in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Jason Plank and his family were selected by Operation Finally Home to receive a new Lennar home at Summit & Discovery at Prevail in Meridian, Idaho.

The Duskin family’s new two-story, 2,800-plus-square-foot single-family home was fully furnished and included a holiday surprise: a Christmas tree adorned with wrapped presents set up in the living room.

“It was an honor for our team to build this home for [Gold Star spouse] Maggie, and we were thrilled to welcome her just in time for the Christmas holiday,” says Mikkel Thompson, vice president of construction operations at PulteGroup’s Raleigh division. “We hope this home becomes a place where the Duskin family will gather and spend meaningful time together, especially when the family’s two older sons, who are both active-duty Army soldiers, come visit.”

The Duskins' home was built in partnership with Operation Coming Home, in honor of Michael Duskin’s military service and sacrifice. The home is the fourth in the Raleigh area dedicated through the Built to Honor program and the first for a Gold Star family recipient in the market.

PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program, launched in 2013, recognizes and thanks returning military personnel who have been injured during their term of service by providing mortgage-free homes to veterans and their families. The program has built and donated more than 60 homes across the country, including seven mortgage-free homes in 2021 in Texas, Maryland, Minnesota, and North Carolina.

In Idaho, the Plank family was surprised with their gift after initially being told they were going through a preliminary interview process with Operation Finally Home and Lennar representatives. Instead, the family was driven to the homesite and given a tour of the under construction home by Boise Lennar division president Jeff Clemens and Operation Finally Home executive director Rusty Carroll. The home is expected to be completed early in 2022, and a home dedication will be held in the coming months.

“On behalf of Lennar, our associates, and all of our trade partners, we are thrilled to provide the Plank family with this mortgage-free home in Meridian,” says Clemens. “The city of Meridian has been so supportive and were a part of the surprise providing a police escort and having a fire truck on-site. Giving back to the communities in which we build is a core value for Lennar, and, as part of entering this market, we felt it was important to let the community know that not only are we excited to do business in the Boise market, but we are passionate about giving back and making the community where we work a better place.”

Lennar has been working with Operation Finally Home since 2017 and together have teamed to build 11 mortgage-free homes for veterans and their families nationwide with another 10 homes forecasted in 2022. With Lennar’s recent entry into the Idaho market, the Plank family home is its first project for Operation Finally Home in the state. New Braunfels, Texas-based Operation Finally Home was established in 2005 and has completed more than 250 home projects in more than 30 states.
