As the popularity of online shopping continues to grow for everything from clothing and household items to deliverable groceries and meal kits, residential architects and builders are developing solutions to manage package arrival and keep them safe from weather and theft. A new custom home in Glencoe, Illinois, by local firm Morgante Wilson Architects and Highgate Builders includes a delivery vestibule specifically for this purpose.

The setup features a door adjacent to the home’s main entry, which opens from the outside for receiving packages. Inside, couriers will find a closet-like area where they can set packages or hang dry cleaning. A second interior door locks from the inside to ensure the home is secure and the owners can retrieve their purchased goods at their convenience, knowing they are protected at all times of the day.

In addition to the delivery door, other notable features of the home include a first-level primary suite, a chef’s kitchen with a barrel-vaulted ceiling and an oversized island, and a grand spiral staircase encircling a glass-enclosed elevator.
