Design firm V Starr Interiors, owned by tennis star and entrepreneur, Venus Williams, has designed the clubhouses for Modern Doral, a gated residential complex composed of three subdivisions located in Doral, Fla. Developed by South Florida-based Terra, this unique master-planned community consists of 319 single-family luxury homes and approximately 150,000 square-feet of retail space containing fine dining, eclectic shopping, and recreational environments.
“Our interiors are a modern representation of quintessential mid-century Miami and boast sculptural lighting, fun artwork and pops of color with cool open floor plans,” explains Williams, CEO of V Starr Interiors. “These are family communities, so we have kids’ rooms in the club homes, which is distinct from past projects; there are Lego walls and custom murals by Jeffrey Noble that maintain the modern feeling.”

The firm designed three two-story clubhouses, one for each subdivision, starting at 3,500 square feet. The layouts for each clubhouse are different, yet share the same clean, open design. The clubhouses also include meeting areas, a fully-equipped fitness center, library, business center with media room and kitchenette, a swimming pool, spa, sun deck, BBQ gazebo areas, and spectacular lake views and bicycle trails.
“When much of the world looks at South Florida real estate, they see high-rise condos, but this market is home to a range of product types catering to a diverse buyer base,” says Terra president David Martin. “The sales success we’ve experienced at Modern Doral is a real-world example of the growing demand for design-oriented homes in desirable communities.”

Construction of Modern Doral is expected to be completed later this year. Homes within Modern Doral’s three subdivisions – Modern 45 (105 homes), Modern 60 (140 homes) and Modern 75 (74 homes) – each feature different Miami Modernist Architecture styles from the 1950s and 1960s that personify the romance and energy of Miami. Residences range between four and six bedrooms and vary in size from 3,100 to 4,500 square feet. Each home offers open floor plans with 10-to-12-foot ceilings, 2-3 car garages, panoramic windows, balconies, and lush tropical landscaping. Prices range from about $860,000 to $1.5 million.
Modern Doral marks the second South Florida collaboration for Terra and Venus Williams. The developer also enlisted V Starr to design the residence interiors at Botaniko Weston, Terra’s newest luxury development underway in Broward County, which will feature 125 contemporary-style homes designed by architects Chad Oppenheim and Roney J. Mateu.
